"Bagaimana" or "How" sometimes becomes a really complicated thing in Indonesian. Not only because the word is too long to pronounce, but also the bewilderment created by the native speaker itself. I probably confused you by what I mean here, but let me make this clear. In Indonesia, people tend to say "GIMANA" instead of "BAGAIMANA". Why is it like that? There is no special reason nor explicit explanation related to this word. What we know is, based on our habit, we really like to shorten the words, not only in "BAGAIMANA" case, but in almost all words you will find later during your deep exploration in our language. Another reason is, you will be perplexed not only by the shortened form of the word, but also by the sound you will hear when a native speaker pronounce "GIMANA", you might mistake it with the word "DI MANA". However, let's just skip this problem for now and let's concentrate on how to make a sentence or question using "BAGAIMANA or GIMANA" 1. You can use BAGAIMANA and GIMANA in Indonesian for asking the way to go somewhere:Bagaimana (Gimana) cara pergi ke pantai, Mas? How do I get to the beach, bro? Bagaimana (gimana) cara pergi ke hotel dari pantai ini, Mas? How do I get to the hotel from this beach, bro? 2. You can use BAGAIMANA or GIMANA in Indonesian for asking the instruction of using or making something:Bagaimana (gimana) cara makan kue ini, Mbak? How to eat this cake, sis? Bagaimana (gimana) cara pesan kamar lewat internet, Pak? How to book a room through internet, Sir? 3. You can use BAGAIMANA or GIMANA to ask about somebody's opinion:Bagaimana (gimana) tidur kamu? How was your sleep? Menurut kamu, Bagaimana (gimana) makanan ini? In your opinion, how was the food? (menurut kamu literally means according to you) So, are you still confused of using "BAGAIMANA?" and "GIMANA?". Let us know if there is something you don't understand :)
